Movie stars wanted - Director too! January 2006

  Dear Nigel,

The temperature here was minus 16.5 degrees C yesterday. I am asking myself whether there is anything I should be learning from the birds who fly south for the winter!

Welcome to all the new subscribers this week.

Going to the moon
The other day I watched a film about a team in Australia who were supporting Houston in the Apollo 11 mission (Neil Armstrong going to the moon). There was a beautiful moment when the team leader turns to a young computer operator and says, "Remember you are participating in something monumental in the history of mankind (you are part of the team that is putting a man on the moon)". Instead of getting lost in the unimportant and complaining – remember that you are part of a greater project, and do not lose sight of that.

Do you need to remember that you are participating in something grander than playing the part of the "computer operator"?
Are you living your life according to a role?
Are you playing the role that you would choose for yourself?

We live our lives like an actor in a film. We have been given our personality and we just follow the pattern. Maybe we look at the other actors and think, "I wish I had got his part, he gets all the best scenes – why does that never happen to me?"

If you are the actor in the film, who is the director?

The director is the guy who decides what roles the actors will play, and which scenes. He matches up the good guys against the bad guys, and makes them find each other in the show-down.

How do you become the director?
How many people in the corporate world of negotiating still say to their team-mate, "Today you play the bad guy, and I will be the good guy". Playing roles: consciously deciding how to play a situation. This is directing; deciding not only how you will play your part, but deciding which part you will play.

Which part do you want to play in the film on today titled, "My Life"?

To be director is one thing, but I have to write for many subscribers who I know want even more than that!

Just consider the figure that I will call the "Producer". He will decide in which "world" the story takes place in.

The producer will decide if all the characters in the film are rabbits who live on one hill, or the characters come from different galaxies.

You can be the star player in your local comunity where you live and work. You can be a star player in your country where you live and work. You can be a star player on the planet where you live and work. You decide where, in which "world", the film "My Life" takes place in.

School for movie-makers Each one of us is participating in an amazing experience. We are all students at a school for making movies. We are all making our own movie with the same title, "My Life". and we have the opportunity to meet the other students and exchange notes so that we can improve our film as we go on. And the more we learn from the better film makers and the teachers, so we can help others improve their films too.

Nigel coaches people like you to freedom – freedom from limitations, freedom to do/be more, financial freedom, emotional freedom, freedom to be yourself.
