Dear Nigel,
A warm welcome to all the new readers this week.
And a thank-you to all of you who have introduced
new members to the list. There were some technical
problems last week, I trust that everyone got the
newsletter and I got all the feedback: if I have not
responded, please resend.
In a coaching session one of the most sensitive
moments is going through the options of the coachee
(the person being coached). We pull out
"ALL" the
actions that the coachee could take to reach the
goal.
Sometimes we play to find new ideas - "What would
your best friend tell you to do?", or "What would you
tell a student you are counselling to do?", and all
kinds of other techniques to trick the mind to look in
new pleaces for the treasures.
The treasures are those ideas which come up from
the unconscious. And before they bubble up, we
have to dig a bit to go through all the ideas we have
been mulling over day after day, and, maybe, also to
move a few stones (limiting beliefs).
It is a sensitive moment of the coaching session
because the coachee may hit frustration, and may
not believe he/she is able to find more options.
When you go beyond this moment you get out of the
proverbial box.
