The return-to-work mantra

The return-to-work mantra August 2005

  Dear Nigel,

Hallo again – back from an excellent holiday

What I like about holidays is:

  • to break the routine – change environment, eat different food, get a taster of a different culture;
  • to relax – read – reflect;
  • to have a bit of full-time living with the family;

and then to come back full of new ideas ready to leap into action.

What can happen?

Routines can be useful when they create discipline: they can also operate on auto-pilot just consuming time through outdated processes aimed at maintaining control. Routines can be a brake to stop change happening - to make it seem that life is always the same, just because I always do things in the same way. A break in the routine provides the opportunity to make sure it is relevant and effective in the present time.

Are your routines evolving as your life and you change?

The three "R's" – relax, read and reflect (in the english educational system the three R's are – Reading, wRiting and aRithmatic: spelling in england is improving).

Are you more open to adopt new ideas when you are relaxed?

So much insight is available from the successes of others, and inspiration from how they overcame the seemingly impossible.

Family: when we are in our "home" routine our attention is often predominantly focused on work, and while we still give time and attention to the family – it is only when we are full-time together that we catch up and really discover each other.

Do you have a new-found connection with your family that you can extend to your relating at work?

It is always great to recharge the batteries, but we really go forward when we take those great ideas and strategies, that came up while contemplating our tummy-buttons, and transform them into actions.

The return-to-work mantra is: THINK – SAY – DO

This is how you will create the reality you want.

Here is a special offer for you. I keep on saying "action": "do it". Well, if you are feeling resistence, or that something is holding you back, call me for an appointment before the end of the month. I will give you one free session specifically on that one issue. And you will see how limitations can be handled, leaving you free to move forward to greater things. The offer is only valid this month.

I work with people in business who want to do more with less – to make a greater contribution with less effort – to be more themselves with less holding them back.
