Nigel Buxton Update
Making it happen December 2005

  Dear Nigel,

What have you decided to do?

The moment you have decided, you will also need some intention to make it happen.

The intention is what makes it actually happen.

Sometimes when you are deciding what to do, you get those inner voices (the ones we talked about last week) shouting at you, because they have fears, doubts or outright conflicting ideas.

These conflicting voices will have to be handled. There are two ways:-

1. give them space to be heard. You can even explore "what if" - what could happen - what is the real concern. Treat it like a balloon, letting all the air out, until it has exhausted itself.

2. add more intention, and just press on. Use this way with caution. Think for a moment how people react when they are steam-rollered – they don't like it, and they tend not to lie quietly. So to with the inner voices. If it is minor resistence, just push on; if there is a real issue it should be handled as such.

How much intention is needed?

The amount of intention to do the job will depend on the challenge.

How much the voices scream at you will depend on how much you are upsetting the existing belief system (for example: the comfort zone, the level of security, self-esteem, conflicting with strongly-held beliefs).

Some people apply so much intention to get what they want that they are like a bulldozer and go straight over and through everything/everyone in the way.

Some people try to listen to the voices and find solutions for all the concerns, to create a smooth passage to the new state. And find building a consensus hard work because there is not enough push - not enough intention.

Intention is the power to make it happen.

How do you operate?

Can you make the changes that you have decided are necessary in your life and in the world that you lead?

Can you handle the objections? And can you put in enough intention (power) to make it happen?

The challenge of life is not to repeat the past - it is to try new ways, to be creative, make steps into the unknown – as it is said on Star Trek, "To boldly go where no man has gone before".

The challenge of the leader is to decide the course, and get his team to follow him – to handle those voices.

Everyone is a leader – some leaders only have to deal with the inner voices, others have to deal with the outer voices too.

Ways to get the voices aligned so that they all sing the same song – that is a topic for another time!

Nigel coaches people like you to freedom – freedom from limitations, freedom to do/be more, financial freedom, emotional freedom, freedom to be yourself.
